The purpose of the Accelerating the Advancement of Agricultural Innovation Program is to support activities that demonstrate the feasibility and potential for real world application of innovations that are new to Alberta or new to the agriculture sector. This program is one of two in the Science and Research theme within the Canadian Agricultural Partnership in Alberta. This grant program supports applied research with a focus on innovation for public good.

Adapting Innovative Solutions in Agriculture

The purpose of the Adapting Innovative Solutions in Agriculture Program is to support activities that take innovations that have proven to work outside of Alberta or in industries other than the agriculture industry, and adapt those Innovations so that they can be used under Alberta-specific conditions and/or in a specific Alberta Agriculture sector. This program is one of two in the Science and Research theme within the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.  This grant program supports applied research with a focus on innovation for public good.

Agriculture and Food Sustainability Assurance Initiative Program

Agriculture Training Support

The purpose of this program is to provide support to the agricultural and horticultural businesses and services to help address the impact of COVID-19. The program will provide a grant to eligible employers to offset the costs of training and ensuring safety protocols are in place for new employees hired from the available domestic labour pool.

To be eligible your organization must produce at least $10,000 worth of agricultural or horticultural farm commodity, or processed food and beverage product, annually.

The AgriScience Program is a program under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

The program aims to accelerate the pace of innovation by providing funding and support for pre-commercial science activities and cutting-edge research that benefits the agriculture and agri-food sector and Canadians.

Aims to support specific shorter-term research activities to help industry overcome challenges and address fiscal barriers experienced by small and emerging sectors. They also seek to mitigate high risk opportunities that have the potential to yield significant returns.

Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change – Group

The purpose of the Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change – Group program is to support extension delivery, carry out applied research, and strategically manage data (through producer groups and agricultural organizations) that improve producer understanding of key environmental practices that, when implemented, can increase market access for the producer.

This program aims to benefit Alberta’s agriculture industry by funding organizations, associations, and other groups to deliver extension, carry out applied research, and strategically manage data.

This program is now temporarily suspended and is not accepting applications until further funding is available. Groups that are interested in applying to this program are still encouraged to discuss potential project ideas for eligibility with the Coordinator.

Farm Water Supply Program

The Farm Water Supply Program shares costs relating to enhancements of a producer’s on-farm water supply management, arising from a Long-Term Water Management Plan (LTWMP). These eligible costs are offered through Standard and Special Incentive projects described in detail in the Farm Water Supply Program Funding List.

This program will:

  • support producers to improve their water supply security and more effectively and efficiently manage their on-farm water resources
  • support producers to protect their water resources through beneficial management practices; and
  • provide technical assistance to producers to complete an assessment for the management of their water resources (e.g., Long-Term Water Management Plan).

Producers, corporations and not-for-profit organizations with an active agricultural business in Alberta and a minimum of $10,000 of farm commodity production income are eligible.

Public Agriculture Literacy Program

This program supports initiatives that build industry communication capacity to increase public and consumers’ awareness and understanding of agriculture and the food production system.

The following activities related to public agriculture literacy may be eligible for funding:

  • planning, organizing and hosting agriculture literacy awareness summits, workshops and conferences;
  • recruitment and training of agriculture industry spokesperson;
  • development of resources such as videos, website, educational materials, displays, publication and other awareness and educational resources;
  • development and implementation of strategic communication campaigns; and
  • benchmarking studies or needs assessments.

Youth Agriculture Education Program

The program stream supports the development and delivery of effective agriculture education programs that are science-based, topic-driven, curricular-linked and help students use critical thinking to engage in meaningful and informed conversations about issues that affect public trust in agriculture.
