The program is an important part of the transition to a new carbon future and circular economy and enables the participation of Alberta’s innovation community, urban and rural communities and industries throughout the value chain. The goals of the Bioenergy program are connected with the ARIF 2030 targets:
- 50% reduction in organic waste to landfill through innovative technologies
- Reduce methane emissions by 45% by 2025
- Attract an additional $3 billion private sector investment in value-added bio-industrial sector
The Bioenergy program focuses primarily on two areas:
- Diversion of Residues and Waste: these are opportunities that focus on waste management practices with reduced environmental footprint
- Renewable Fuels: these are opportunities that work in the development and/or deployment of (1) renewable fuels technologies and (2) enabling technologies
