Calgary Film Centre Incentives
Calgary Economic Development
The Calgary Film Centre is owned by the City of Calgary and operated by Calgary Economic Development. In 2009, Calgary Economic Development was tasked with developing a purpose-built film studio to act as an incubator for the industry by promoting Alberta and foreign film productions.
The aim is for the Calgary Film Centre to become a centre of innovation and excellence in the creative and digital media industries, consolidating leading-edge activity, while driving project and process development as well as economic diversification in Alberta.
Alberta provides funding for screen-based production through a competitive and flexible incentive in the form of a refundable Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC) program through Economic Development, Trade and Tourism or the Alberta Made Production Grant through the Ministry of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women.
The Government of Canada also provides an additional 16% labour tax credit for non-Albertan talent and crew who are Canadian citizens.
