Community Futures Network of Alberta is very pleased to announce the BizStream Small Business Program for Alberta’s small businesses. This program is supported by Talisman Energy, to help entrepreneurs in Alberta’s competitive business environment get in the game.

The BizStream Small Business Program provides information and mentoring to rural Alberta businesses with the potential and desire to engage in contracts with the energy sector.

If your company has the expertise, skills and ambition to engage in contracts with the energy sector, but lacks some of the competencies required to secure these contracts, BizStream Small Business Program could be for you.

There are 4 Alberta Community Futures regions engaged in the BizStream program:

  • Community Futures West Yellowhead (Hinton)
  • Community Future Central Alberta (Red Deer)
  • Community Futures Yellowhead East (Whitecourt)
  • Community Futures Lloydminster (Lloydminster)

Community Futures: Youth Entrepreneurship Program

The program is targeted at unemployed youth aged 18-39 who are not Employment Insurance (EI) eligible and have not had an EI claim for the past three years (5 years if maternity claim).

Those that are accepted into the program can expect:

  • Financial support of up to $5,000 for agreed upon living supports, targeted support such as daycare or bus pass, seed business funding, training grants and a $500 completion bonus upon successful completion of the program
  • Support to develop the program application and, once accepted, a participation plan
  • Ongoing one on one counseling support to assist in completion of a business plan
  • Group instruction where appropriate to assist with detailed business planning
  • Mentorship and business introductions
  • Additional specialized business training where appropriate
  • Access to resources and research

The Chinook Entrepreneur Challenge (CEC) is more than a competition; it is an opportunity to build on your dream. It is a business plan writing competition designed and targeted toward new or existing business (individuals, or teams) who have a sustainable business idea. Through the program you will gain business skills, write your business plan, get feedback on your ideas from regional professionals, network with key people including other entrepreneurs like yourself, and last but not least, have a chance at winning cash and in-kind prizes. Due to the amazing support from our sponsors, we are able to offer both a general and a technology stream.
